Alethia

Admissions runs on trust. We are building the way to earn it.

Alethia exists because the most consequential decisions a university makes about a person are made from documents nobody has the time to check.

The name

Aletheia is the Greek word usually translated as truth. Its older sense is closer to unconcealment: not a verdict handed down, but something brought into the open so that people can see it for themselves.

That is the whole product. Alethia does not decide who is admitted. It brings what an applicant said next to what the record shows, and leaves the judgment to the people whose job it is.

Why we are building this

Every admissions office we have talked to describes the same cycle. Applications arrive by the thousand. Each one carries dozens of claims. Readers have minutes per file. A few claims get checked when something feels off; the rest are taken on trust, because there is no other way.

The cost lands unevenly. Institutions carry the risk of decisions built on claims nobody looked at. Readers carry the discomfort of knowing it. And applicants who did the work carry the quiet injustice of being indistinguishable from applicants who said they did.

Verification at the scale of a whole pool has not been possible before. Agents that can read a file, search the public record, write to a reference, and read the reply make it possible now. We think the first use of that capability in admissions should be the fairest one: check everyone the same way, show the evidence, and let people decide.

What we believe

  • Verify, do not judgeEvidence and status, claim by claim. Never a score, a rank, or a prediction about a person.
  • Humans decideThe queue of claims that need a person is the product working as intended, not failing.
  • Scale is the pointA check that only runs on suspicious files is a different, worse product. Everyone gets the same treatment.
  • Fair to applicantsHonest applicants gain the most from verification. Outreach is courteous, transparent, and limited to what they chose to list.
  • Concrete over adjectivalWe would rather show you a verification record than describe one. This site is built the same way.
